When Electronic Technologies Replace Mechanical Ones – a Mini Interview for Elektronik Magazine

The dynamic development of digitalization means that in many fields, traditional mechanical solutions are giving way to electronic technologies. This trend is particularly evident in the area of device control, where touch interfaces are becoming increasingly common. Today, these technologies are used not only in consumer electronics, but also in industrial environments and public spaces.

At Unisystem, we actively respond to these changes by focusing on the development and implementation of modern touch solutions, including proprietary products. One example is the capacitive touch button UCB045-RGB-CMFDV1 – an industrial component designed for high reliability, intended both for new designs and for retrofitting existing devices, where it effectively replaces traditional mechanical buttons.

In a mini interview for Elektronik magazine, Kamil Kozłowski, COO & VP at Unisystem, discusses the development directions of touch technologies, market expectations, and practical applications of modern interfaces.

What alternatives to traditional switches, buttons, and keyboards are currently available on the market?

Kamil Kozłowski: First and foremost, touch technologies. More and more devices are equipped with displays, and a natural next step after their introduction is the use of touch panels. Capacitive technology is the most commonly used today, although resistive or infrared-based solutions are still applied in certain applications.

What is most important for customers using touch technologies?

Based on our experience, durability and functionality are key. Users expect our solutions to operate reliably even in the most demanding conditions. We design devices intended for intensive use, exposed to electromagnetic interference as well as vibrations, shocks, extreme temperatures, and sudden temperature changes. Proper controller calibration is particularly important, as it allows the touch panel to be adapted to the specific requirements of a given application. This ensures appropriate sensitivity even when liquids, such as raindrops, appear on the screen surface, significantly reducing the risk of accidental activations.

And all of this can be done at Unisystem?

Yes – and that is still not everything we have to offer. Recently, we have also been developing our own solutions. One of them is the capacitive touch button UCB045-RGB-CMFDV1, designed for reliable operation in demanding industrial environments where precision, durability, and resistance to harsh conditions are essential. It provides accurate touch detection through glass up to six millimeters thick, even in the presence of water on the surface, while calibration capabilities allow its performance to be tailored to the specific application.

The button can be operated while wearing gloves, which is particularly important in production, medical, and laboratory environments, where protective equipment is standard. Integrated visual and audible feedback creates an intuitive, multisensory interface that improves message clarity and makes devices easier to operate.

Importantly, this button is suitable not only for new designs – it can also serve as a modern, durable, and more hygienic replacement for traditional mechanical solutions.
